Ferrari 312T2

The Ferrari Grand Prix car 312T2 featured a number of changes compared with the 312T, its immediate predecessor. New aerodynamic regulations were introduced for the 1976 Formula 1 season, which meant, among other things, that the car no longer had an airbox behind the cockpit. Instead, NACA-shaped air intakes were built into the sides of the cockpit, channelling air to each cylinder bank of the 12-cylinder boxer engine. The 312T2 was raced by Ferrari in the 1976 and 1977 Formula 1 seasons by Niki Lauda, Clay Regazzoni, Carlos Reutemann and Gilles Villeneuve. It was also used in the first two races of 1978, before being replaced by the 312T3. Ferrari won the Constructors' Championship with the 312T2 in both 1976 and 1977, and Niki Lauda finished second in the Drivers' Championship in 1976 with the 312T2, just one point behind leader James Hunt.
