Compact four-door saloons were never dream cars, either in the sixties or in the decades that followed - but there was, and still is, one exception: the Alfa Romeo Giulia. On 27 June 1962, a horde of journalists marvelled at the new saloon, angular and tall, standing on the tarmac of the Monza circuit. The newcomer's understated design alone didn't win over every critic, but it certainly won over customers, as its compact build and roomy interior kept the order books full.
