The 250 Testa Rossa is today one of the most sought-after Ferraris in the world. The TR was developed with existing Ferrari customers in mind, many of whom were at the time racing the 500 TRC model. The 500 TRC was known for its outstanding handling, and the 250 TR built on this quality by using a similar chassis as a platform to house a far more powerful V12 engine with six twin-choke carburettors. The 250 Testa Rossa won the Manufacturers' World Championship for Ferrari in 1958.
In that exciting year for the giant from Maranello, "Lucy Belle" was entered for the 24 Heures du Mans by privateer Ed Hugus under start number "22". That year, the race at the Sarthe drew around 150,000 spectators, who were looking forward to a thrilling, closely fought duel between Ferrari, Jaguar, Aston Martin and Porsche. Against a backdrop of similarly strong works racing teams, Lucy Belle, driven by Ed Hugus and his teammate Ray 'Ernie' Erickson, achieved a commendable seventh place overall. Scuderia Ferrari, which entered the race with 11 cars made up of both works and private teams, ultimately won the race.
