Mercedes-Benz race transporter “Blue Wonder”, 1954/55

In 1954/55, a hand-built one-off emerged from the Daimler-Benz experimental department: the Mercedes-Benz race transporter. With its deep blue paintwork, the softly curved lines of its bodywork and a top speed of 170 km/h, “the Blue Wonder” attracted just as much attention as the W 196 and 300 SLR racing cars it carried on its loading bed. When Daimler-Benz withdrew from motorsport after the 1955 season, the race transporter also disappeared from public view and was even scrapped in 1967. It wasn't until the early 1990s that Daimler-Benz rediscovered this gem, bringing it back to life as an identical replica under the direction of the Mercedes-Benz Classic Center.
