Experts have long agreed that the Bugatti Coupé Atlantic 57 SC ranks among the most beautiful automobiles ever built. Its streamlined body is a classic of Art Deco design. Only three examples of this fascinating sports car were ever made. The creative mind and builder behind the Atlantic was Ettore Bugatti's son Jean. At just 26 years old, he achieved a stroke of genius that made automotive history, presenting a design that eclipsed everything known before it and that has lost none of its fascination to this day. The riveted ridge running from the windscreen to the rear, which sets the car apart so distinctively from others, is in fact a purely stylistic element. It recalls the seam used to join the two body halves of the previously built "Aerolithe" prototype.
But it wasn't only the sports car's appearance that caused a stir. In its day, the Atlantic Coupé was also one of the most powerful cars in the world. Its 3.3-litre straight-eight engine with two overhead camshafts was fed by a supercharger that delivered a full 200 hp, propelling the car to a sensational 200 km/h.
