Der M23 wurde von einem Ford Cosworth DFV-Motor angetrieben, der von Nicholson-McLaren Engines, einem spezialisierten Tuning-Unternehmen, pr\u00e4pariert worden war. Die fertige Einheit hatte rund 490 PS. Der M23 wurde w\u00e4hrend der Saison 1975 weiterentwickelt. Er erhielt unter anderem ein Sechsgang-Getriebe, das eine echte Neuheit in dieser \u00c4ra der Formel 1 war.
