entdeckten &#8211; Renntransporter. Die weitgehend baugleichen Fahrzeuge der Scuderia Ferrari und Maserati geh\u00f6rten wohl zu den bekanntesten und technisch ausgereiftesten Renntransportern jener Tage. Als Basis diente ein Bus-Chassis von Fiat &#8211; der Typ Fiat 642 RN2, dem sp\u00e4ter der leistungsst\u00e4rkere Fiat 682 RN folgte. Zum Renntransporter f\u00fcr drei Boliden wurde er durch einen offenen Aufbau des Karosseriebauers Bartoletti. Die mit einem 92 PS starken Sechszylinder-Diesel-Reihenmotor ausgestatteten &#171;Lastesel&#187; der Rennst\u00e4lle unterschieden sich beim ersten Hinsehen eigentlich nur durch ihre Aussenlackierung und die Werbeaufschriften. Erst auf den zweiten Blick stellte man fest, dass der Maserati-Renntransporter sich doch in manchem vom Ferrari-Bruder unterscheidet.<br \/>\nRenntransporter waren zu den teilweise weit entlegenen Rennstrecken oft tagelang unterwegs. Sie wurden nicht &#171;nur&#187; f\u00fcr den Transport der \u00e4usserst kostbaren Fracht genutzt, sondern konnten weit mehr: Sie hatten eine komplett eingerichtete kleine Werstatt an Bord und fungierten gleichzeitig als Materialdepot. Vor allem aber dienten sie der Crew und den Fahrern als Logistik-Center, Aufenthaltsraum und Schlafplatz &#8211; als wichtiger R\u00fcckzugsbereich w\u00e4hrend der hektischen Rennwochenenden.<br \/>\nDie Mechaniker fuhren auch die Transporter. Enge Zeitpl\u00e4ne zwangen sie zu logistisch ausgekl\u00fcgelten Mehr-Tagetrips. Grosse Doppel-Kraftstofftanks garantierten eine betr\u00e4chtliche Reichweite; so konnten zeitraubende, teure Tankstopps vermieden werden. Nach der ohnehin schon anstrengenden Fahrt folgte dann die eigentliche Aufgabe &#8211; der Einsatz an der Strecke.<br \/>\nMany crew members spent much of their working lives in and around the race transporters in this way.
