Weltkrieg fand 1951 statt und war Auftakt f\u00fcr den Beginn einer \u201egoldenen \u00c4ra\u201c dieser Rennveranstaltung die bis 1966 anhalten sollte. Zu jener Zeit waren die Ferrari mit ihren hochentwickelten GT-Fahrzeugen das Mass aller Dinge. Allein acht Mal siegte die Scuderia zwischen 1951 und 1962 in der Gesamtwertung.<br \/>\nDie Tour de France f\u00fcr Automobile im Jahr 1964 wurde vom 11. bis 20. September in Frankreich und Italien ausgetragen. Mit einem Ferrari 250 GTO, Chassis Nr. 4153 trat die belgische Fahrerpaarung Lucien Bianchi\/Georges Berger zusammen mit weiteren 116 Teilnehmern zum Start des Rennens in der Stadt Lille an. In den folgenden neun Tagen mit dem Ziel in Nizza musste in sechs Etappen eine Gesamtdistanz von 6&#8217;060 km zur\u00fcckgelegt werden. Nur 36 Mannschaften erreichten das Ziel in S\u00fcdfrankreich. Wie jedes Jahr hatten die Teilnehmer auf ihrer langen, entbehrungsreichen Fahrt durch Frankreich und erstmals mit einem Abstecher nach Monza in Italien gezeitete Wertungspr\u00fcfungen zu absolvieren. Dazu geh\u00f6rten Rundstreckenrennen auf den Rennpisten von Reims, Rouen, Le Mans und Monza, sowie Bergpr\u00fcfungen mit Ank\u00fcnften am ber\u00fchmten Col du Tourmalet, dem Mont Ventoux und dem Col de Turini.<br \/>\nF\u00fcr besondere Spannung sorgte die erstmalige Teilnahme eines amerikanischen Rennteams. Kein Geringerer als Carroll Shelby meldete drei Shelby Daytonas f\u00fcr das Starterfeld an. Zun\u00e4chst dominierten die 380 PS starken Coup\u00e9s das Rennen, schieden aber alle drei nach zum Teil schweren Unf\u00e4llen auf der dritten Etappe aus.<br \/>\nAm Ende des Rennens hatte wie schon so oft zuvor wieder ein GTO die Nase vorn. Als Gesamtsieger in der GT-Klasse konnten sich Lucien Bianchi und Georges Berger auf ihrem Ferrari 250 GTO mit der Startnummer 172 \u00fcberschw\u00e4nglich feiern lassen.
