Targa Florio am Sonntag, dem 6. Mai 1962. Das italienische Fahrerteam Giorgio Scarletti und Pietro Ferraro sind mit ihrem Ferrari 250 GTO in auffallender Zweifarbenlackierung und mit der Startnummer 86 zu diesem Langstreckenrennen angetreten. Es wurde die klassische Runde der Madonie (Piccolo) mit 72 km L\u00e4nge 10-mal gefahren, so dass am Ende eine Strecke von 720 km bew\u00e4ltigt werden musste.<br \/>\nDer Rundkurs verl\u00e4uft auf \u00f6ffentlichen Bergstrassen im Grossraum Palermo mit Start und Ziel im Ort Cerda und weist ca. 900 Kurven auf die von den Piloten stundenlange H\u00f6chstkonzentration und fahrerisches K\u00f6nnen abverlangen. Menschenmassen, oftmals gef\u00e4hrlich am Strassenrand, Felsformationen, B\u00e4ume und tiefe Abgr\u00fcnde sind f\u00fcr die Fahrer die Begleitkulisse, wenn es darum geht auf den h\u00e4ufig holperigen und staubigen Pisten um den Sieg zu fahren. Die Fahrzeuge starten einzeln im 20 Sekunden Abstand, weil wegen der engen Stra\u00dfen ein Pulkstart undenkbar ist und selbst \u00dcberholman\u00f6ver sich \u00e4usserst schwierig gestalten. Ein versierter Fahrer schafft den Rundkurs in weniger als 40 Minuten, was in etwa einer Durchschnittsgeschwindigkeit von ca. 100km\/h entspricht.<br \/>\nDas GTO-Team Scarlatti\/Ferraro haben diese Tortur hervorragend gemeistert und fuhren nach 7h:22m  in der GT-Klasse als Sieger durchs Ziel.
