\/>\nWachsender Wohlstand und das milde Klima machten Kalifornien zum &#171;Traumland&#187; der Amerikaner. Johnny von Neumann, Ferrari-H\u00e4ndler in Californien, erkannte, dass der Jetset ein besonderes &#171;Spielzeug&#187; ben\u00f6tigte, das sich komplett von den Fahrzeugen amerikanischer Hersteller unterschied. Sein Wunsch nach einem kraftvollen Spyder fand bei Enzo Ferrari ein offenes Ohr.<br \/>\nFerrari ist mit dem 250 California SWB ein Cabriolet gelungen, das Ende der 50er-Jahre un\u00fcbertroffen war und als Benchmark aller offenen Roadster galt. Mit dazu beigetragen hat das geniale Duo, n\u00e4mlich Sergio Pininfarina als Karosserieschneider und der nicht weniger bekannte Sergio Scaglietti als virtuoser Blechk\u00fcnstler.<br \/>\nDer &#171;Cal-Spyder&#187; wurde Anfang 1958 zun\u00e4chst mit langem Radstand von 2600 mm in den Markt eingef\u00fchrt. Im Jahre 1960 folgte eine neue Version als sogenannte Short Wheel Base (SWB) mit Radstand 2400 mm nach. Dieses Auto war im Prinzip baugleich mit dem 250 GT\/SWB Berlinetta, der Ende 1959 vorgestellt wurde. Sein ber\u00fchmter 12-Zylinder V-Motor brachte nun kraftvolle 280 PS Leistung auf den Asphalt. Fahrzeuge f\u00fcr die Strassennutzung erhielten eine Stahl-Karosserie,f\u00fcr Renneins\u00e4tze wurde eine Alu-Leichtgewicht-Karosserie zusammen mit einem gr\u00f6\u00dferen Kraftstofftank und aussenliegendem Tankeinf\u00fcllstutzen mit Schnellverschluss vorgesehen.<br \/>\nDer Ferrari &#171;Cal-Spyder&#187; wurde daher sehr schnell zum Status-Symbol des wirklich letzten und ehrlichen &#171;Dualpurpose car&#8217;s&#187;. Mit anderen Worten, er war sowohl auf der Strasse wie auch auf der Rennpiste in seinem Element. So erlangte er einen fast mystischen Status als erfolgreicher Sportwagen, einmal wegen der geringen Produktionsst\u00fcckzahl und zum anderen als seltene und h\u00f6chst wertvolle automobile Sch\u00f6nheit in unverf\u00e4lschter Qualit\u00e4t.<br \/>\nVon den insgesamt zwischen 1958 bis 1963 gebauten 105 Autos, aufgeteilt in ca. 50 LWB und 55 SWB waren diverse Vertreter auf der Film-Leinwand zu bestaunen. CMC hat sich bei ihrem Modell f\u00fcr die Strassenversion des SWB-California Spyders entschieden mit abgedeckten Scheinwerfern und zus\u00e4tzlichen Stossstangen-H\u00f6rnern. Mille Miglia unter die R\u00e4der zu nehmen.Wegen einem abgesprungenen Tankdeckel mit \u00fcberschwappendem Treibstoff auf Fahrer und Beifahrer mu\u00dfte das Team in aussichtsreicher Spitzengruppe und nach mehr als der H\u00e4lfte der Strecke leider aufgeben.Der Ausgang des Rennens ist mittlerweile weltbekannt und ging in die Renngeschichte ein.
